DOOLIE - Cut You Off

3 Aug 2023

Back and stronger than ever, Gold Coast songstress DOOLIE is back with her latest single 'Cut You Off'. The now Melbourne based artist showcases her versatility as she effortlessly blends elements of pop, R&B, and electronic music with her heartfelt lyricism. With its catchy hooks and unforgettable chorus, ‘Cut You Off" is a fearless expression of reclaiming one's power and breaking free from toxicity in your formative years.

DOOLIE explains,Cut You Off was written at a pivotal time in my life. Surface level, yes it's a breakup song. On a deeper level, it's about the realisation of how easy it is to slip into something that feels so comfortable and realising it's not right for you. Comfort is not key.  It feels like I'm at the beginning of my twenties and with a new sensation of independence. The question went from “who am I?” To “this is who I am” The track is about harnessing myself-worth, it represents the beginning of my independence journey.”

DOOLIE continues, Cut You Off is ultimately about realising I was caught up living someone else's life, and how easy it was to lose myself. I could feel my identity slipping away.

I want this song to be the push that people need to chose themselves, prioritise the life they want. I want my listeners to feel comfort in being uncomfortable. We’ve all been here and this song is going to hold your hand an help you through.”

If listening to DOOLIE feels like being transported – to the euphoria of an Ibiza dancefloor, or the front seat of a convertible with the wind in your hair – that’s by design. The Sunshine Coast-raised, Melbourne-based talent taps into the pop-house of the late 90s and early 2000s with her music, constructing songs that uplift, enchant, and evoke a different space and time.

But DOOLIE’s vision isn’t limited to the sonic. The singer, songwriter and performer even designs her own incredible on-stage costumes, and uses her platform to speak up about being proud of what sets us apart – something she had to learn the hard way growing up as a type 1 diabetic. Now after starting strong by amassing over 2 million Spotify streams on her debut feature single ‘Freefall’,  the multi-talent is poised to share a stack of new music in 2023 – ushering in a new era of DOOLIE.
