Be prepared to be transported back to the early 2000s with CLYPSO’s new take on the All Saints classic ‘Pure Shores’. Always delivering with her unique alt-pop and electronic vibes, CLYPSO’s 2022 rework of ‘Pure Shores’ sees Sydney’s Kilter on production duties. Having collab’d with the likes of The Avalanches & Jamie xx, Kwame and Miami Horror, CLYPSO is one of Australia’s brightest stars in the scene – a vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist in a class of her own.
“The idea to do the cover of Pure Shores actually came from a pretty unrelated conversation with a friend about legacy British bands like The Prodigy, Faithless, Underworld, The Verve, Blur, Orbital etc,” explains CLYPSO. “How cool they were and that they were literally the soundtrack of every Danny Boyle film. This reminded me of The Beach soundtrack and the next day I listened to Moby’s Porcelain, my fave from the soundtrack, and then Pure Shores. I’d never really listened closely to the lyrics of ‘Pure Shores’ before but this time round I did, and it was quite moving. I recorded my take on the vocals and took the idea to Kilter for production, bringing this 2000 classic into 2022.”
2022 sees CLYPSO continue her trajectory as a rising and talented artist in the Australian electronic scene. CLYPSO’s sound is a collage of hyperactive beat and grimey basslines.
Since exploding onto the scene in 2017 with her breakthrough single ‘YOLO’, CLYPSO has been turning heads as a songwriter, vocalist and producer, having written with the likes of electronic royalty The Avalanches, Kwame, and Konstantin Kersting, as well as gaining a FBi SMAC Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist, a triple j Unearthed Artist of the Week crown, top 10 on the Australian Spotify Viral 50, hitting #1 on the triple j Unearthed Electronic and Hip-Hop chart and being named as one of Junkee’s “Artists Who Will Shape Australian Music in 2021”.
CLYPSO’s energetic and unique live show has also landed her national supports for the likes of PNAU, Channel Tres and Art vs Science, as well as huge festivals such as Meredith, Festival of the Sun, Lost Paradise and more.
