Brooklyn-based producer and Berklee Jazz School multi-instrumentalist JNTHN STEIN delivers his first original for 2018, ‘Headroom.’ Featuring Grammy Award-winning production duo Brasstracks, who produced Chance The Rapper’s ‘No Problem’, ‘Headroom’ is a blazin’ chill wave jam which is sure to get the nod from their respective fans.
It’s hardly been a slow year for STEIN who’s had collaborations released with A$AP Ferg and Mick Jenkins and continues to share his expertise writing with anyone from metalcore’s Brandon Saller to Columbian pop artist Lao Ra. A recent sea change to Corsica has had a certain effect on his songwriting. Main lining the Mediterranean into the soul, ‘Headroom’ begins a run of singles from STEIN with his follow-up to ‘Changes’ EP due later in the year.

STEIN continues to establish his solo identity as part of the globally renowned production collective Team Supreme, which he co-founded. Producing alongside peers Grammy-nominated Djemba Djemba and Mr. Carmack, 2017 saw the release of his acclaimed EP ‘Changes’ and with a growing list of discernible tastemaker support from the likes of KCRW’s Anthony Valadez, Radio 1’s Jamz Supernova, Beats 1 Anna Lunoe as well as the entire Soulection crew, JNTHN STEIN’s bass-wave soul is generating a proper groundswell.
Now, Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak (Toolroom/Jalepeno) and 21 year old Norwegian producer Marius (Pelican Fly/Seeking Blue) have made their mark, adding their own flavours to the original chill wave jam. Having previously remixed the likes of Jamiroquai, Detroit Swindle, Moby, Solomun and more, Kraak & Smaak add to their impressive repertoire with a groovy synth-led rework. Rounding out the pack is exciting new talent Marius, shifting the vibe and delivering a percussion-heavy, late-night version. Marius recently captured the attention of the likes of Pigeons & Planes, Pitchfork & Nest HQ with his 2017 debut EP ‘Existence Problem’, released on the label that helped introduce artists likes of Cashmere Cat and Lido to the world.
