We are always in pursuit of a song which will soundtrack the coming summer. And well before our first sunburn of the season sets in, in comes ‘Simple Life’. A breezy slice of laidback disco from Sydney’s Jerk Boy and Micci which delivers our lockdown souls to the tropics, bush or beach.

The moniker of Sydney DJ and producer Adam Stivala, Jerk Boy has been a tastemaker within the club scene over the last five years, releasing originals across a slew of renowned dance labels including Refuge Recordings, Medium Rare Recordings, and Clipp.Art. With his originals featured on BBC 1, Glitterbox Radio, DJ Mag and triple j, Jerk Boy continues to shine through release after release. Today, he is back with a brand-new track featuring legendary Sydney vocalist Micci (Michaela Baranov) to bring you ‘Simple Life’, a disco-infused track intended to shine some light through tough times.

Jerk Boy explains the meaning behind ‘Simple Life’: “We created the song with the intentions of lifting spirits during and after lockdown.” Micci adds, “With a shift in priorities for us all, bringing our main desire to the basic human needs of feeling free and having proper human interaction. I really love everything he’s done in the whole production”.

Jerk Boy’s music has been described as “classy disco house” and “solid gold easy action for the disco-lovin’ house floors”, by IDJ, with further props from leading industry press DJ Mag, Data Transmission, and Electronic Groove. With his originals consistently featuring on the ARIA Club Chart, Traxsource and Beatport charts, and his vinyl releases regularly selling out multiple pressings, it is clear to see why he is such a sought-after remix producer, and why his originals are so eagerly anticipated. DJ support includes the likes of The Blessed Madonna, Claptone, Doorly, Weiss, Fatboy Slim, and Groove Armada, furthered by radio love from The Aston Shuffle on triple j, DJ Mag Radio, and Oliver Heldens’ ‘Heldeep’.

Having played some of the most iconic parties in town, including a set at Sydney’s Glitterbox alongside industry icons Todd Terry, Gene Farris, The Shapeshifters and many more, plus regular appearances as at LNDRY, Good Bar, Welove and S.A.S.H, Jerk Boy always knows how to turn it on.

Micci was introduced to the Australian audience in 2015 on The X Factor. Taken under the wing of her mentor, Dannii Minogue, she finished the competition as a top 7 finalist. Shortly after this concluded she was scouted by Australian DJ duo Flight Facilities and completed a world tour with them as their lead vocalist. Micci then went on to join Peking Duk’s incredible live show, touring with them both domestically and internationally.  This year, Micci made her debut with original music and her solo live show. Her upcoming feel-good ‘80s inspired pop records include ‘Didn’t Want Love, ‘Cold In Summer’ and ‘Will You Remember Me’.
